Background
King Addroran IX's first son had set sail east, accompanied by his navigator and companion, Lady Jessene.[1] They were able to reach the Great Continent with the help of the merfolk, led by Lord Typhon, in return for steel trident points and fishhooks.[2]
After the Crown Prince died under suspicious circumstances, his younger brother launched a war against the Wesfolk. In retaliation, the Lich-Lords opened gateways to the Old Continent, allowing orcs to pour through.[3] The prince was slain in battle, and unbeknownst to his father, his body was reanimated by the Lich-Lord Jevyan as a death knight.[2]
The orcs invaded various Green Isle kingdoms, including Stormvale and Clearwater, forcing the humans to flee their homes.[4][5] During this exodus, Prince Haldric managed to obtain the Ruby of Fire,[6] as well as a tome documenting its use.[7] Led by Haldric, they set sail from Clearwater Port to the Kingdom of Southbay.[5] Upon arriving, Addroran agreed to evacuate the Green Isle and let his people travel east to the Great Continent, but only after they had re-provisioned their ships over the winter.[1]

As winter turned to spring, Jessene successfully translated the Book of Fire and Darkness, allowing Prince Haldric to experiment weaponizing conjured fireballs from the Ruby of Fire. Shortly thereafter, orcs attacked Southbay before the ships were ready to set sail. As dusk fell, Jevyan appeared on the battlefield, accompanied by his familiar. Jevyan made threats against Addroran, before sensing the Ruby of Fire. Before leaving, he presented the reanimated corpse of the former prince, much to Addroran's horror.[2]
After the sun set, Typhon arrived at the shoreline of Southbay, accompanied by other fellow merfolk, requesting to speak to the Addroran's eldest son, unaware of his death. Jessene introduced Typhon to her fellow humans, and informed Typhon of the prince's death, nonetheless requesting that Typhon provide aid to them once more. Typhon agreed to this arrangement under the same conditions that he had negotiated during their previous encounter.[2]
With Typhon's aid, Haldric defeated the orcs' leaders, consisting of Tan-Harak, Tan-Hork, and Tan-Gulo. The second crown prince, and a handful of undead soldiers accompanying him, were also defeated successfully. Haldirc subsequently began the evacuation of Southbay, and Jessene suggested they make a stop at an island she had encountered on her previous voyage. Jessene also voiced concern that Jevyan knew about the Ruby of Fire. Haldric named one of the ships the Eldaric after his father, agreed to send ships back to rescue survivors after reaching the Great Continent, then set sail east.[2]
