More than one year has gone by since we released Wesnoth 1.6. To thank you for almost 4 million downloads via sourceforge.net, we now proudly present '''Wesnoth 1.8'''. You can look at the (translated) [http://www.wesnoth.org/start/1.8/ release notes] to get an idea about what has changed since 1.6. For those who just want to play, the new release is available for [http://www.wesnoth.org/wiki/Download#Stable_.281.8_branch.29 download]. This stable release is compatible with the last two releases in the 1.7.x stream. If you have any comments, we would be happy to hear them in the [http://www.wesnoth.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=29385 forum thread] dedicated to this release. We hope there are no bugs left, but if you find one, please [http://www.wesnoth.org/wiki/ReportingBugs report] it.

<b>Wesnoth 1.13.8</b> is now available! This is the eighth development release in the 1.13.x series and first of the 1.14 beta releases! It delivers a number of improvements, most notably to the UI, and bug fixes. If you want to know more about it, check out the [https://forums.wesnoth.org/viewtopic.php?t=t46094 forum thread] with the list of changes in this version.

We are also looking for help in several areas, so that many other releases of similar caliber can follow this one. We are especially looking for translators, graphic artists (sprite, portraits, terrain, story images), music composers (a background in classical composition, and good equipment required), sound artists (for special effects), authors (writing/maintaining campaigns, creating content like unit descriptions, improving the ingame help) and, of course, coders. If you want to participate in developing Wesnoth, just have a look at the [http://forums.wesnoth.org forum] or visit us in the IRC channel [irc://irc.freenode.net/#wesnoth-dev #wesnoth-dev] on irc.freenode.net.

As on previous occasions, we also offer two versions of the changelog: a trimmed-down [https://raw.github.com/wesnoth/wesnoth/1.13.8/players_changelog players changelog] including only those items considered to be relevant in regular gameplay, and a more technical [https://raw.github.com/wesnoth/wesnoth/1.13.8/changelog full changelog] for enthusiasts and content creators.
