Wesnoth 1.9.3: Development Release
Friday, December 10 2010
Wesnoth 1.9.3 has been released. This is the fourth release of the brand new 1.9.x development series. It includes huge, groundbreaking changes. Please have a look this forum thread to get a rough idea about those big changes (and some known problems).
We offer two versions of changelogs: a rather nice to read players changelog that only includes changes every player will probably notice and the (rather) complete changelog with (almost) all the details, which is likely to cause a serious headache...
At the moment the Windows, the MacOSX and the OpenPandora packages are ready. You can find them at the download page. Once the others are done you can find them at the download page, too. Please keep in mind that it is a development release which might include quite many bugs. If you find one, please report it to help us fix them in following releases.

Site availability issues

UPDATE 2010-09-13: The problem seems to be solved now. We'll keep you updated on the issue if further problems arise.
You might have noticed today that the wiki and forums, and occasionally the whole website, have gone offline several times during the last few hours. We are currently working on investigating a technical issue, so further service problems should be expected until we announce otherwise.
Apologies for the inconvenience.

Wesnoth 1.8.1: Maintenance Release
Sunday, May 2 2010
Wesnoth 1.8.1 has been released. This is a bugfix release for the stable 1.8 branch. The main change does affect multiplayer users by reintroducing the old lobby as (default) option. If you want to use the new lobby, you do have to change the corresponding preference entry. Some other important multiplayer related errors (eg. "Missing WML Child") were fixed, too. For information about further changes in this release, have a look at this forum thread.

Wesnoth 1.8
Thursday, April 1 2010
More than one year has gone by since we released Wesnoth 1.6. To thank you for almost 4 million downloads via sourceforge.net, we now proudly present Wesnoth 1.8. You can look at the (translated) release notes to get an idea about what has changed since 1.6. For those who just want to play, the new release is available for download. This stable release is compatible with the last two releases in the 1.7.x stream. If you have any comments, we would be happy to hear them in the forum thread dedicated to this release. We hope there are no bugs left, but if you find one, please report it.
We are also looking for help in several areas, so that many other releases of similar caliber can follow this one. We are especially looking for translators, graphic artists (sprite, portraits, terrain, story images), music composers (a background in classical composition, and good equipment required), sound artists (for special effects), authors (writing/maintaining campaigns, creating content like unit descriptions, improving the ingame help) and, of course, coders. If you want to participate in developing Wesnoth, just have a look at the forum or visit us in the IRC channel #wesnoth-dev on irc.freenode.net.

If you are interested in participating in Summer of Code 2010 as a developer for Wesnoth, you can find all information required in our wiki. You should carefully read this page and also join our IRC channel #wesnoth-dev on irc.freenode.net.
