Wesnoth 1.9.13 aka 1.10-beta4: Development Release

Tuesday, December 20 2011

The fourth beta for 1.10 is ready. Feel free to celebrate the new release with us in this forum thread.

We offer two versions of changelogs: a rather nice to read players changelog that only includes changes every player will probably notice (and often feels empty because devs tend to forget to add their stuff there) and the (rather) complete changelog with (almost) all the details, which might make your head spin due to the technical terms used every now and then...

At the moment the Windows, Mac OS X and OpenPandora packages are ready. You can find them at the download page. Once the others are done you can find them at the download page, too. If you find a bug, please report it to help us fix them in following releases.

FOSDEM2012 - Open Source Game Development: Call for Speakers

Saturday, November 19 2011

FOSDEM2012 will host a devroom centered on the development of Free and Open Source Games. Possible speakers (and topic suggestions) are invited to make their proposals. The game development devroom takes place on Sunday, February 5th, 09:00 - 17:00 in room AW1.120 (74 seats). Please have a look at this forum thread to read the call for speakers.

Open Source Games at FOSDEM 2012

Friday, November 11 2011

Finally some news not directly related to a new release. Several contributors to Wesnoth have been meeting at FOSDEM for the last 4 years where we took the opportunity to discuss things in person as well as meeting each other. We talked about eventually trying to get a whole devroom where things can be presented and discussed. During the GSoC Mentor summit at the end of October one topic discussed with other organizations was the creation of such a devroom. Some hours ago the accepted devrooms were announced and the result is:

There will be an "Open Source Game Development" related devroom at FOSDEM 2012.

Of course things won't stop there. Since several organizations (including Battle for Wesnoth, Hedgewars, Unknown Horizons, ScummVM and WorldForge) agreed on collaborating in this room, further things will be discussed on neutral grounds. There is a mailing list provided by the FOSDEM folks where we can discuss things. There will also be a "call for speakers" soon. Possible topics can include anything related to open source gaming, meaning it could be about porting to specific platforms, artworks (graphics and sound), translations, working on AI, encouraging UMC contributions or whatever you can think about in regards to open source gaming. The only limit I personally see is that the speaker should have some background in an open source gaming related project e.g. by being a contributor in the area they want to talk about.

Now to the basic facts about the dev room:

  • Date: Sunday, February 5th, 09:00 - 17:00
  • Place: FOSDEM2012 in Brussels, Room AW1.120 with 74 seats
  • Topic: Anything "Open Source Game Development" related possible!

Wesnoth joins the "Free Game Alliance"

Wednesday, October 19 2011

We are proud to be one of the founding members! Basically the alliance is an eclectic group of open source games that covers a wide array of major genres in gaming. The alliance is intended to promote their members visibility on the internet. The other games that are currently part of the alliance include:
