Wesnoth 1.3.13: Development Release

Saturday, December 29 2007

Merry Christmas and a happy New Year to everybody! Here is the dev teams present to you: a new campaign, support for compressed savegames (savegame size goes down by more than 90%) and improved support for multiplayer campaigns (finally they really should be possible). There are more new and changed things but if you want some more info about what changed, have a look at this forum thread. As with the last development releases, we continue to offer two versions of changelogs: a rather nice to read players changelog that only includes changes every player will probably notice and the (rather) complete changelog with (almost) all the details, which is likely to cause a serious headache...

At the moment no binaries are ready, but once they are done you can find them at the download page. Please keep in mind that it is a development release which might include quite a few bugs. If you find one, please report it.

Update: The Windows binaries are now available at the download page.

Update 2: The MacOSX binaries are now available at the download page. Soon the server will be updated to only support 1.3.13.

Wesnoth 1.3.12: Development Release

Saturday, December 1 2007

Okay, time for a new development release. This release does fix the bugs in the development branch that were already fixed in the stable branch with 1.2.8. Beside this some other things were fixed, for example should Windows users now again be able to use the multiplayer and the add-on server (at least once the Windows binary is out). There are more new and changed things but if you want some more info about what changed, have a look at this forum thread. As with the last development releases, we continue to offer two versions of changelogs: a rather nice to read players changelog that only includes changes every player will probably notice and the (rather) [http://svn.gna.org/viewcvs/wesnoth/tags/1.3.12/changelog?rev=22067&view=download complete changelog</a> with (almost) all the details, which is likely to cause a serious headache...

At the moment only the OpenSolaris binaries are ready, but once the others are done you can find them at the download page. Please keep in mind that it is a development release which might include quite a few bugs. If you find one, please report it.

Update: The MacOSX binaries are now available at the download page.

Update 2: The Windows binaries are now available at the download page. Soon the server will be updated to only support 1.3.12.

Wesnoth 1.2.8: Maintenance Release

Tuesday, November 27 2007

Wesnoth 1.2.8 has been released. The main reason for this release was just another security vulnerability. A faulty add-on could read some of your files and post the content to all particiants of the multiplayer game. There was another issue that is described in this forum thread. Those are two rather serious issues so when using the 1.2.x stable branch please update to 1.2.8 as soon as possible. The complete list can be found in the changelog. You can read the announcement and make your comments in this forum thread. The MacOSX, Windows and Gentoo packages are already available at the download page. We don't know when the GNU/Linux and all the other binaries will be out.

If you have problems, follow the instructions given here. If this does not help, please report them.

Wesnoth 1.3.11: Development Release

Tuesday, November 21 2007

To make it short: Here is the new development release. It is basically meant to fix some of the bad bugs introduced in 1.3.10 and to tackle some long standing issues. If you want some info about what changed, have a look at this forum thread. As with the last development releases, we continue to offer two versions of changelogs: a rather nice to read players changelog that only includes changes every player will probably notice and the (rather) complete changelog with (almost) all the details, which is likely to cause a serious headache...

Soon the server will be updated to only support 1.3.11.

Wesnoth 1.3.10: Development Release

Sunday, November 11 2007

The last Development release was exactly one month ago. So it is time for a new version. I won't mention any of the classified details in here. If you do really need information about any of those changes, have a look at this forum thread. As with the last development releases, we continue to offer two versions of changelogs: a rather nice to read players changelog that only includes changes every player will probably notice and the (rather) complete changelog with (almost) all the details, which is likely to cause a serious headache...

At the moment there are no binaries ready, but once they are you can find them at the download page. Please keep in mind that it is a development release which might include quite many bugs. If you find one, please report it.

Update: Looks like a bad bug regarding campaign uploads to the add-on server found a way into this release. In this forum thread esr describes how to make sure that your uploaded content works when using 1.3.10. If you do not follow this guide, content you upload will probably not work for anyone downloading it, so please make sure to adhere to this. A fix for this problem will be included in the next release.

Update 2: The Windows binaries are now available at the download page.

Wesnoth 1.2.6: Review at phoronix.com

Friday, October 26 2007

"(..)This is a must-download game for any gamer, even those who are not big fans of fantasy-based titles.(..)". So what else shall I write about this review by Phoronix? Overall a rather positive review resulting in 9 of 10 possible points. You should read the whole review for all the details. Of course Wesnoth was reviewd by many other websites and magazines, too. A list containing many of those reviews (at least the ones we are aware of) is available in our wiki.

Wesnoth 1.3.9: Development Release

Thursday, October 11 2007

Three weeks have gone by and now it is time to announce a new Development release. Changes this time do cover the DoS fixes that just went into 1.2.7, and the addition of the campaign "An Orcish Incursion". You can find some more information in this forum thread. As with the last development releases, we continue to offer two versions of changelogs: a rather nice to read players changelog that only includes changes every player will probably notice and the (rather) complete changelog with (almost) all the details, which is likely to cause a serious headache...

At this point of time no binaries are ready, but once they are you can find them at the download page. Please keep in mind that it is a development release which might include quite many bugs. If you find one, please report it.

Update: The MacOSX binaries are now available at the download page.

Update 2: The Windows binaries are now available at the download page. So soon the server will be updated to only support 1.3.9.

Wesnoth 1.2.7: Maintenance Release

Tuesday, October 9 2007

Wesnoth 1.2.7 has been released. The main reason for this release was a security vulnerability of the multiplayer part. An invalid utf-8 string could make other clients crash. The main issues could already be fixed via a server update, but it is at least problematic if you run direct games or your own server. Since we did now implement a whole fix on the code side, please update 1.2.7 so that you are not affected anymore by this vulnerability. Beside this not much was changed, mainly translation and map updates plus the addition of the font needed to display the japanese translation. The complete list can be found in the changelog. You can read the announcement and make your comments in this forum thread. The Mac, Gentoo and Debian packages are already available at the download page. We don't know when the Windows, the GNU/Linux and all the other binaries will be out.
If you have problems, follow the instructions given here. If this does not help, please report them.

Update: Finally the Windows binaries are available at the download page.

September

Wesnoth 1.3.8: Development Release

Thursday, September 20 2007

Time has come to announce a new Development release. So what shall I write about 1.3.8? I think I should not write much about all the changes since you can find everything already in this forum thread. Basically we are just replacing some of the old bugs from 1.3.7 with new ones. As with the last development releases, we continue to offer two versions of changelogs: a rather nice to read players changelog that only includes changes every player will probably notice and the (rather) complete changelog with (almost) all the details, which is likely to cause a serious headache...

At this point of time "only" the MacOSX, OpenSolaris and OpenSuse binaries are ready but none of the others. You can fetch them at the download page. Once the other binaries are available you can of course find them at the download page. Please keep in mind that it is a development release which might include many bugs. If you find one, please report it.

Update: The full version of the MacOSX binary is broken. The packager has been notified and a working binary will probably be provided soon. Only the full version is affected of this, the lite version (available on the download page) is working normally.

Update 2: The MacOSX binary was reuploaded, now mounting the DiskImage should be possible so that you can use 1.3.8 on your Mac without compiling yourself.

Update 3: Finally the Windows binaries are available at the download page. So soon the server will be updated to only support 1.3.8.

August

Wesnoth 1.3.7: Development Release

Sunday, August 26 2007

This is just a new Development release, nothing important over here. You may find something like a "linger mode" and a new campaign in this release. To get some info about this have a look at this forum thread.

Update: The Windows binaries are now available at the download page.

Update 2: Finally the MacOSX binaries are available at the download page. So soon the server will be updated to only support 1.3.7.

Campaign server crash

Saturday, August 4 2007

We seem to have some problem with the campaignserver used for the dev branch. Somehow the index file for it got wiped clean so that the content that was available can not be downloaded anymore. Since this file is not restorable, I simply did restart the server. Please re-upload your content to the 1.3.6 campaign server. Before uploading please make sure that it really is compatible with 1.3.6. You can find more information in this forum thread.

Wesnoth 1.2.6: Maintenance Release

Friday, July 27 2007

Wesnoth 1.2.6 has been released. This release mainly features a fix for an important bug where translations could make multiplayer games go Out-of-Sync. All multiplayer users are highly recommended to upgrade to 1.2.6. Some of the other changes can be found in the changelog. You can read the announcement and make your comments in this forum thread. The Mac, OpenBSD and Syllable packages are already available at the download page. We don't know when the Windows and the GNU/Linux binaries will be out.

If you have problems, follow the instructions given here. If this does not help, please report them.

Update: Finally the Windows binaries are available at the download page.

Update 2: Removed the Windows binary due to problems with the OOS fix when it gets compiled with VC++. In short: With this fix it is worse than before for Windows users. We will update the page once the issues are fixed.

Update 3: A new and now hopefully working version of the Windows binaries is available at the download page.

Wesnoth 1.3.6: Development Release

Sunday, July 22 2007

A new Development release is ready. Don't ask me to list the changes (I did so already in the announcement) and tell you why it is not named 1.3.5 but 1.3.6, just have a look at the forum thread to read about all these things. As with the last development releases, we continue to offer two versions of changelogs: a rather nice to read players changelog that only includes changes every player will probably notice and the (rather) complete changelog with (almost) all the details, which is likely to cause a serious headache...

At this point of time the Mac OSX and OpenSolaris binaries are already done, you can find them at the download page. Please keep in mind that it is a development release which might include quite many bugs. If you find one, please report it.

Update: Finally the Windows binaries are available at the download page. So soon the server will be updated to only support 1.3.6.

June

Wesnoth 1.3.4: Development Release

Sunday, June 24 2007

A new Development release is ready. It was time for some interface changes. Now there are nice transparancy effects ingame and the cursor shows in a better way from which hex you will attack. Since I am too lazy to list all the great changes in here, better have a look at the forum thread which describes the most important changes. Since the screenshots page was quite outdated, I updated it with six brand new screenshots. As with the last development releases, we continue to offer two versions of changelogs: a rather nice to read players changelog that only includes changes every player will probably notice and the (rather) complete changelog with (almost) all the details, which is likely to cause a serious headache...

At this point of time no binaries are done, but once one is ready you can find it at the download page. Please keep in mind that it is a development release which might include quite many bugs. If you find one, please report it.

Update: Now the MacOSX version is available at the download page.

Update 2: Finally the Windows binaries are available at the download page. So soon the server will be updated to only support 1.3.4.

Wesnoth 1.2.5: Maintenance Release

Friday, June 15 2007

Wesnoth 1.2.5 has been released. This release mainly features some smaller bug fixes and many translation updates. Some of the other changes can be found in the changelog. You can read the announcement and make your comments in this forum thread. The Mac package is already available at the download page. We don't know when the Windows and the GNU/Linux binaries will be out.

If you have problems, follow the instructions given here. If this does not help, please report them.

Update: The first version of the Mac Binary was broken, a fixed one is now available at the download page.

Update 2: Now even the Windows binary is ready. Go to the download page to get it.

May 2007

Wesnoth 1.3.3: Development Release

Sunday, May 28 2007

A new Development release is ready. This time we added quite a few new campaigns and several other things. Since I am too lazy to list all the great changes in here, better have a look at the forum thread which describes the most important changes. As with the last development releases, we continue to offer two versions of changelogs: a rather nice to read players changelog that only includes changes every player will probably notice and the (rather) complete changelog with (almost) all the details, which is likely to cause a serious headache...

The Mac binary is ready, the Windows binary is not. We will post a message and a link in this forum thread once it is available. Have a look at the download page for all the binaries that are already out, like the new Solaris binary. Please keep in mind that it is a development release which might include quite many bugs. If you find one, please report it. One was already found and fixed, have a look at this post for some info about some problematic multiplayer maps and a hotfix.

Update: The Windows binary is now ready, too. You can find it on the download page. It does even include the hotfix for the mp maps.

Wanted: "general purpose campaign maintainer"

Wednesday, May 9 2007

Now that we have changed our policies regarding the addition of campaigns to mainline we are looking for some volunteers to work on the mainline campaigns. This includes fixing bugs, balancing and all this stuff. Have a look at this forum thread for all the fancy details and how to contact us if you are willing to do the job.

Changed policies for campaigns

Monday, May 7 2007

Lately we have been thinking about what else we could do to improve the game beside simply improving graphics, musics/sounds and making WML more flexible. We came to one simple idea: we could ship more campaigns with the game. Since we also want to make it easier to get campaigns into mainline, we have changed our policy a little. The new policy is described in this forum thread. In short: It will be by far easier for a campaign to be added to mainline, but it will also be easier for it to be removed before a release. Especially before a new stable release we will carefully check which ones should be bundled with the game. Some campaigns have already added svn trunk and will be in the next development release, have a look at the forum thread for more info.

April 2007

Wesnoth 1.3.2: Development Release

Thursday, April 26 2007

2 months of hard work have gone by and now 1.3.2 is available. Since I am too lazy to list all the great changes in here, better have a look at the forum thread where I did describe many things rather in detail. Like with the last development release we do again offer two versions of changelogs: a rather nice to read players changelog that only includes changes every player will probably notice and the (rather) complete changelog with (almost) all the details.

The Windows and Mac binaries are ready. Infos about some of the GNU/Linux binaries are already available at the download page and in the forum thread with the more complete announcement.

This development release is probably incompatible with most the pre 1.3.2 content you have, no matter if saves, replays or usermade content. If you use old content, don't complain if it does not work as expected... Keep in mind that it is a development release which might include quite many bugs. If you find one, please report it.

Planning for Wesconf 2007

Sunday, April 22 2007

In the last weeks we have been working on organizing a first international Wesnoth conference named 'Wesconf'. We are not 100% sure if we can manage everything needed but we do have a first announcement with some of our plans ready. Have a look at the respective forum post for some details about what Wesconf is meant to be, what we want to achieve and, even more important, when and where we want it to take place.

Wesnoth 1.2.4: Maintenance Release

Sunday, April 15 2007

Wesnoth 1.2.4 has been released. Quite some important changes did take place that should fix quite some bugs regarding savegames, recall lists and maybe even replays. Now tSG should be playable again. All the other nice and small fixes and additions can be found in the changelog. You can read the announcement and make your comments in this forum thread. The Mac and Windows binaries and infos about some of the GNU/Linux binaries are already available at the download page. The Debian package (that should also work with *ubuntu) should be available at the usual place, too.

If you have problems, follow the instructions given here. If this does not help, please report them.

Forums up and working

Sunday, April 8 2007

Wesnoth forums have been down for a few days due to data corruption in our database. It took more time than expected to recover because the administrator was not available. Note that we have tried to recover as much as possible, but some of the data might have been lost. Thanks for your patience.

WIP: Wii and PS3 version

Sunday, April 1 2007

Now that we got some basic gp2x support implemented in it's own branch and another (still quite early) alpha version is being uploaded to sf.net, I can now proudly announce that we are currently working on Wii and PS3 support. We are even playing a little with our first (closed alpha) version of the Wii port. Thanks to alinks patches for drag&drop it is huge fun to play it. For some more infos and a photo, have a look at the respective forum thread.

Update: Happy April Fools day!

March 2007

Wesnoth 1.2.3: Maintenance Release

Thursday, March 15 2007

Wesnoth 1.2.3 has been released. The most important bugs fixed in this release were not listed in the changelog but they are in this forum thread. All the other nice and small fixes and additions can be found in the changelog. You can read the announcement and make your comments in this forum thread. The Mac, Windows and OpenBSD binaries and infos about some of the GNU/Linux binaries are already available at the download page.

If you have problems, follow the instructions given here. If this does not help, please report them.

Febuary 2007

Wesnoth 1.3.1: Development Release

Monday, Febuary 26 2007

Wesnoth 1.3.1 is finally available. Compared to 1.2.x many things were changed in this brand new version. For example we now have a completely rewritten terrain engine supporting multiple letters. This allows to use many more different terrains and two new terrains were already added. But also a lot of other things did change. This also has a negative impact: It is likely that almost all usermade content that did work in 1.2.x will not work without problems in 1.3.1. Since there were really many changes in all areas of the game and it is a development version it might be more unstable than the stable 1.2 tree. Since quite a lot was rebalanced, balancing might not be as perfect yet as it is in 1.2.x. And finally, the damagetype 'holy' was changed to work a little bit different. So be warned, this one is the first development release, who knows what is broken...

Of course, like for every other version, we do have a forum thread to discuss the release and a really lengthy changelog. For the changelog we do offer two versions, a rather nice to read players changelog that only includes changes every player will probably notice and the complete changelog with all the details. The Mac binaries and infos about some of the GNU/Linux binaries are already available at the download page. The working Windows binaries will probably be available soon.

Remove your old installation before installing this development version otherwise you might get some strange problems. You should also remove all usercontent you have left from 1.2.x since it is likely to cause problems. Keep in mind that it is a development release which might include quite many bugs. If you find one, please report it.

Wesnoth 1.2.2: Maintenance Release

Wednesday, Febuary 21 2007

Wesnoth 1.2.2 has been released. The most impressive changes are the speed improvements maxy did implement. Especially in the mp-lobby and when showing animations the game should be a whole lot faster. Savegames were cleaned up to be a little smaller. Because of this only beginning of scenario saves will work as expected, others may have problems with the recall list. Of course there were many other changes so that i can not list them all in here. For all the nice details have a look at the changelog. You can read the announcement and make your comments in this forum thread. The Mac binaries and infos about some of the GNU/Linux binaries are already available at the download page. Don't ask when the Windows binaries will be ready, we have no idea about this...

If you have problems, follow the instructions given here. If this does not help, please report them.

January 2007

Wesnoth 1.2.1: Maintenance Release

Sunday, January 14 2007

Wesnoth 1.2.1 has been released. It is the first maintance release for 1.2. Some little bugs were fixed and general speed was a little improved. Many spelling and grammar mistakes are now corrected and other little things were added. For all the nice details have a look at the changelog. Read the announcement and comment it in this forum thread. The Windows and Mac Binaries are already available at the download page. If you have problems, follow the instructions given here. If this does not help, please report them.
