Revision as of 19:22, 8 February 2006
If the latest binaries are not currently available for your OS, please check back in a few days to see if they have been placed here. Packagers have been informed of the release, please be patient.
Contents
Stable (1.0.x branch)
The stable files are meant to be used as a stable and rather balanced version of the game. Each version of the 1.0.x branch is compatible to each other. This will not happen in the development branch.
Version 1.0.2 is the latest stable version, updated with several important bugfixes. This version is recommended for most players since the 1.0.x online multiplayer community is very large and user-made campaign server has a robust content selection.
Source code
- Wesnoth 1.0.2: wesnoth-1.0.2.tar.gz (38.2MB) md5sum

BeOS
- Wesnoth 1.0.2 for BeOS: Wesnoth-1.0.2-BeOS-x86.pkg.zip (42.3MB) md5sum
GNU/Linux
- A distribution-independent binary (made with OBLISK) for any somewhat modern GNU/Linux on i386 is available: wesnoth-1.0.1-x86-Opkg.tar.gz
- (do _*_NOT_*_ try to install to a subdirectory of the package's directory. Trust me on this :-( )
- Actually, you don't need to install it at all, you can run it in place.
- Another distribution-independent way to run Wesnothis provided by klik. klik provides stable ("klik://wesnoth") as well as development snapshot ("klik://wesnoth-latest") packages.
- There are specific binaries for many different GNU/Linux Distributions. Not all are always up to date with the current release. Please have a look at WesnothBinariesLinux for more informations about the binaries for your Distribution.
Mac OS X
- Wesnoth 1.0.2 for Mac OS X:
- Sourceforge-hosted build by Sithrandel (53.6 MB)
- Wesnoth_MacOSX_1.0.2-lwa.dmg by lwa (44MB)
- Wesnoth_MacOSX_1.0.2_lite-lwa.dmg by lwa (game only, music and large story images removed) (25MB)
MS Windows
- Wesnoth 1.0.2 for Microsoft Windows: wesnoth-windows-1.0.2.exe (37.0MB)
- Xdelta for the Windows binary
FreeBSD
- Wesnoth 1.0.1 for FreeBSD: /usr/ports/games/wesnoth (37.3MB)
AmigaOS4
- Wesnoth 1.0rc1 for AmigaOS4: http://www.os4depot.net/share/game/strategy/wesnoth.lha (37.7MB)
Development
Version 1.1.1 is the latest development version, boasting updated graphics and new exciting features. However, there may be occasional bugs or performance problems in the development versions since heavy changes are taking place all the time. For balanced and stable gaming, it is recommended you use the latest version of the 1.0.x branch. This version is recommended for coders and campaign developers, as well as those who want to preview the future of Wesnoth.
Source code

GNU/Linux
- A distribution-independent binary (made with OBLISK) for any somewhat modern GNU/Linux on i386 is available: wesnoth-1.1-x86-Opkg.tar.gz
- There are binaries for many different GNU/Linux Distributions. Not all are always up to date with the current release. Please have a look at WesnothBinariesLinux for more informations about the binaries for your Distribution.
- The most easy way to testdrive BfW is provided via klik. klik is another distribution-independent binary that requires no installation; it runs even from USB stick or CD RW. klik support is pre-enabled on Knoppix and Kanotix Live CDs. Other distros need to install a small klik client installed (less than 20 kByte download, less than 20 seconds effort). See the klik FAQ for details. A BfW-specific klik website has links to help with the package. Once the klik client is installed, look at this:
