Guidelines

Translating pages in this wiki is a huge undertaking due to the nature of the content we provide. The English version of each page is the only authoritative version and it may change without notice. If you choose to translate a page to your natural language, make sure to follow these simple guidelines:

  1. Coordinate with your language team! There are many translation teams already formed for working on Wesnoth, and they might be able to help you with terms and expressions specific to the game and its prose style. Making your wiki page translation known to them may also motivate them to contribute to it and maintain it in the future.
  2. Add the original page to your watchlist using the eye icon on the toolbar, and check your watchlist every once in a while to make sure you don't miss any updates that may require changes to the translated version.
  3. Create a copy of the original with /LANGCODE as a suffix. Make sure to use the official language codes used by the game so that the template will recognize your page later. If it's going to take you a while to finish your translation, it would be best if you used a different page name (e.g. User:YourNameHere/PageName/LANGCODE for your draft before publishing it under the correct name.
If in doubt about the language code you should use for your page, ask your translation team, or the folks at the Translation & i18n forum.
  4. Add {{Translations}} at the top of your translated page. If the original did not already have this line, make sure to add it there as well.
