===Wesnoth 1.3.3: Development Release===

A new Development release is ready. This time we added quite a few new campaigns and several other things. Since I am too lazy to list all the great changes in here, better have a look at the [http://www.wesnoth.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=234330#234330 forum thread] which describes the most important changes. As with the last development releases, we continue to offer two versions of changelogs: a rather nice to read [http://svn.gna.org/viewcvs/wesnoth/tags/1.3.3/players_changelog?rev=17856&view=download players changelog] that only includes changes every player will probably notice and the (rather) [http://svn.gna.org/viewcvs/wesnoth/tags/1.3.3/changelog?rev=17856&view=download complete changelog] with (almost) all the details, which is likely to cause a serious headache...

The Mac binary is ready, the Windows binary is not. We will post a message and a link in this [http://www.wesnoth.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=234330#234330 forum thread] once it is available. Have a look at the [http://www.wesnoth.org/wiki/Download download page] for all the binaries that are already out, like the new Solaris binary. Please keep in mind that it is a development release which might include quite many bugs. If you find one, please [http://www.wesnoth.org/wiki/ReportingBugs report] it. One was already found and fixed, have a look at [http://www.wesnoth.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=16555 this post] for some info about some problematic multiplayer maps and a hotfix.<br>

'''Update:''' The Windows binary is now ready, too. You can find it on the [http://www.wesnoth.org/wiki/Download download page]. It does even include the hotfix for the mp maps.

Now that we have changed our policies regarding the addition of campaigns to mainline we are looking for some volunteers to work on the mainline campaigns. This includes fixing bugs, balancing and all this stuff. Have a look at [http://www.wesnoth.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=229725#229725 this forum thread] for all the fancy details and how to contact us if you are willing to do the job.

===Changed policies for campaigns===

Lately we have been thinking about what else we could do to improve the game beside simply improving graphics, musics/sounds and making WML more flexible. We came to one simple idea: we could ship more campaigns with the game. Since we also want to make it easier to get campaigns into mainline, we have changed our policy a little. The new policy is described in [http://www.wesnoth.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=229365#229365 this] forum thread. In short: It will be by far easier for a campaign to be added to mainline, but it will also be easier for it to be removed before a release. Especially before a new stable release we will carefully check which ones should be bundled with the game. Some campaigns have already added svn trunk and will be in the next development release, have a look at the [http://www.wesnoth.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=229365#229365 forum thread] for more info.

===Problems with Wesnoth 1.2?===
+
[http://www.wesnoth.org/wiki/Older_News_2006 Year 2006]
''Thursday, December 28 2006''

Since the release we had quite many reports of problems with the game in the new version. Most of these problems, about 99.99% to be more precise, were related to not uninstalling the old version before upgrading and to using old content from 1.0.x with the new 1.2 version. So if you have any problems with the new version, first follow the steps sugggested in [http://www.wesnoth.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=14531 this] forum thread. It will probably solve most "bugs" you think you are seeing. Keep in mind that 1.2 is '''incompatible''' with 1.0.x, so your 1.0.x saves and campaigns will not work as expected when using 1.2. You should either finish the campaigns in 1.0.x, or restart them in 1.2.

===Wesnoth 1.2===

''Saturday, December 23 2006''

More than one year has gone by since we released Wesnoth 1.0. As a Christmas present for you, and to thank you for more than 1,000,000 downloads via sourceforge.net, we now proudly present '''Wesnoth 1.2'''. You can look at the (translated) [http://www.wesnoth.org/start/1.2/ release notes] to get an idea about what has changed since 1.0. For those who just want to play, the new release is available for [http://www.wesnoth.org/wiki/Download#Stable_.281.2_branch.29 download]. If you have any comments, we would be happy to hear them in the [http://www.wesnoth.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=204569#204569 forum thread] dedicated to this release. We hope there are no bugs left, but if you find any, [http://www.wesnoth.org/wiki/ReportingBugs report] them.

At the moment, we are also looking for help in several areas, so that many other releases of similar caliber can follow this one. We are especially looking for translators, graphic artists (sprite, portraits, terrain, story images), music composers (a background in classical composition, and good equipment required), sound artists (for special effects), authors (writing/maintaining campaigns, creating content like unit descriptions, improving the ingame help) and, of course, coders. If you want to participate in developing Wesnoth, just have a look at the [http://forum.wesnoth.org forum] or visit us in the IRC channel [irc://irc.freenode.net/#wesnoth-dev #wesnoth-dev] at irc.freenode.net.

'''Update:''' The Windows binaries are now available at the [http://www.wesnoth.org/wiki/Download#Stable_.281.2_branch.29 download page].

===New and clean campaign server===

''Thursday, October 05 2006''

Together with the release of the first release candidate for 1.2 (aka 1.1.11) we have a new campaign server running for the new stable branch. At the moment this server is completely empty. All the content creators should upload their stuff to the new server if it really is compatible with the rc1. You automatically reach the new server when clicking on the 'Add-ons' Button in the mainscreen. Some more infos and a way to reach the old content can be found in [http://www.wesnoth.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=186988#186988 this] forum thread.

===Server relocation===

''Monday, September 4 2006''

After having to leave our previous location, and having the servers hosted for some days in a DSL, we have found a definitive (for now) location for them. While the DNS entries get updated, you may have to enter manually the names of the new servers, as [http://www.wesnoth.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=180744#180744 explained in the forum].

'''Update:''' The DNS entrys are now updated. This means you should soon be able to use the normal addresses server.wesnoth.org and campaigns.wesnoth.org again.

===Wanted: Coders===

''Thursday, August 25 2006''

After asking for new translators was such a great success, we are now looking for people willing to contribute code to Wesnoth. We are especially looking for people who want to help fixing [http://bugs.wesnoth.org bugs] and submitting [http://bugs.wesnoth.org patches] in the short term. It is quite normal that the people commiting patches get developer access after some accepted patches. But we are not only looking for people to fix bugs in the short term. In the long term it might make sense to change the current graphics engine. This means it could be a rewrite or maybe a port of the current one to OpenGL (but still 2D). So if you know OpenGL, want to learn how to use it or just want to help improve the Wesnoth engine as it is, visit us in the irc channel #wesnoth-dev on irc.freenode.net or post a message in the [http://www.wesnoth.org/forum/viewforum.php?f=10 Coder's Corner] in our forum.

===Wanted: Translators===

''Wednesday, June 28 2006''

We are now really heading towards a new stable version. Right now the strings ingame are frozen so that translators have a chance to catch up. That is where you could come in. The translators do need every help that they can get. So if you want to help, have a look at [http://www.wesnoth.org/wiki/WesnothTranslations this] page. Just contact the maintainer listed for the translation you want to help with. If the maintainer does either not react or there is noone listed, you can become maintainer of the translation. Just have a look at the [http://www.wesnoth.org/wiki/WesnothTranslationsHowTo How-To]. If your favorite lang does not have a translation yet, you can start it. Just have a look at [http://www.wesnoth.org/wiki/WesnothTranslationsHowTo this] site.

===Wesnoth 1.1.7: approaching 1.2===

''Monday, June 26 2006''

Wesnoth 1.1.7 has been released, which should be quite similar to the upcoming 1.2 version. Wesnoth 1.1.7 can be considered a 1.2 beta, from now on, only bugfixes and translation updates will be added to the game until 1.2 is out. Be sure to keep [http://www.wesnoth.org/wiki/ReportingBugs reporting bugs]. You can read the [http://www.wesnoth.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=11863 announcement] and the [http://svn.gna.org/viewcvs/wesnoth/tags/1.1.7/changelog?rev=12232&view=markup changelog].

===The golden string freeze===

''Tuesday, June 13 2006''

As many of you should know we are not too far away from releasing 1.2. To prepare this there is now a string freeze. While this freeze is active there will be no changes to strings so that translators can catch up with the changes and are able to provide a complete translation for the upcoming stable release. You can find some more infos over [http://www.wesnoth.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=11540 here].

===Wesnoth 1.1.5: Highspeed for Windows (?)===

''Sunday, June 11 2006''

Since it looks like there are some performance issues in the Windows binary we did now (like we already announced in the forum) manage to build it using a different way. The speed should be massivly improved but there are still some problems with it. Remember this is a very early testing version. We do need as many comments as possible to improve this build further. You can find the binary over [http://www.wesnoth.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=11590&start=22 here].

Wesnoth 1.1.5 has been released and should be much more polished than the previous releases, although we are sure you will still manage to discover some bugs. Do not forget to [http://www.wesnoth.org/wiki/ReportingBugs report them]. You can read the [http://www.wesnoth.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=11590 announcement] and the [http://svn.gna.org/viewcvs/wesnoth/tags/1.1.5/changelog?rev=11981&view=markup changelog].

===Wesnoth 1.1.4: Development release===

''Saturday, May 27 2006''

Wesnoth 1.1.4 has been released as soon as possible fixing most of the nasty bugs discovered in version 1.1.3. We hope you enjoy this release and keep [http://www.wesnoth.org/wiki/ReportingBugs reporting bugs] to have a really polished Battle for Wesnoth 1.2. There also is some kind of [http://www.wesnoth.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=11443 announcement] and a (very short) [http://svn.gna.org/viewcvs/wesnoth/tags/1.1.4/changelog?rev=11738&view=markup changelog].

'''Update:''' In the Windows binary package you have to rename python23.dll to python24.dll. Since there were this many problems with the Windows binary in the last days, maybe we should drop official Windows support? ;)

(For those who do not understand irony: We will have a Windows binary as long as someone volunteers to make it...)

'''Update 2:''' The new, fixed windows binary is already [http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/wesnoth/wesnoth-1.1.4a-windows.exe?download available for download].

===Dev meeting to coordinate work on 1.2===

''Thursday, May 25 2006''

Following the [http://www.wesnoth.org/wiki/Wesnoth1.2ReleasePlan release plan] there is a dev meeting sheduled on Saturday, May 27th, 4pm UTC. It would be good if as many devs as possible take part in that meeting. It will take place in our IRC-channel #wesnoth-dev on irc.freenode.net. Main topic will be the [http://www.wesnoth.org/wiki/Wesnoth1.2Features feature list]. We'll try to have a look at which features are possible for 1.2 and which have to be removed from the list. And we'll also try to coordinate a little so that we are able to get the most important things into 1.2.

===Wesnoth 1.1.3: Development release===

''Wednesday, May 24 2006''

We were really busy working on Wesnoth in the last two months. Now here is the result of our hard work. Be aware that there were many changes. Be careful when looking at the [http://svn.gna.org/viewcvs/wesnoth/tags/1.1.3/changelog?rev=11607&view=markup changelog] since it is really huge. A very short and compressed list of changes can be found in the [http://www.wesnoth.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=11371 announcement]. Of course you can find the downloads on the [http://www.wesnoth.org/wiki/Download#Development download page].

At the moment we are heavily working on preparing a new stable release that will be called 1.2. So if you find bugs in the brand new 1.1.3 release, please [http://www.wesnoth.org/wiki/ReportingBugs report] them. Feel free to [http://www.wesnoth.org/forum/viewforum.php?f=22 comment] the official campaigns so that we can further improve them, too.

'''Update:''' It looks like there are some serious problems mainly related to the windows version of 1.1.3 and to the heavily changed mp-modus. ATM we are working on fixing some of these bugs. Keep an eye on the forum for more infos.

===Heading towards a stable release===

''Friday, April 28 2006''

Soon the time has come to get out another stable release. To be able to coordinate some things for this we do have a nice [http://www.wesnoth.org/wiki/Wesnoth1.2ReleasePlan release plan]. Of course we won't stick closely to any of the dates and we'll try to break all of these deadlines. Now let's get serious: the plan only gives a rough timeline, nothing more.

As you might have already seen, there now even is an official "The Battle for Wesnoth"-Trailer. Have a look at its downloadpage and watch it ASAP. Radoz made a great job with this video. You can get the trailer over [http://www.wesnoth.org/wiki/Trailer here].

===Wesnoth 1.1.2a: Bugfixes to the Development release===

''Thursday, March 23 2006''

We had a few bugs in our release of 1.1.2.  It seems that some scenarios from TROW had unexpectedly vanished.  Fortunately, after a short ordeal by our best and bravest, we've recovered them, and present them to you in our release of 1.1.2a, which fixes both that and a few minor bugs. The only changes in this release are to the data/ subdirectory, and the release is compatible, for multiplayer, with 1.1.2.  If you find any other bugs, please [http://www.wesnoth.org/wiki/ReportingBugs report them here]. The [http://www.wesnoth.org/forum/viewtopic.php?p=144526#144526 announcement is over here]. The [http://svn.gna.org/viewcvs/*checkout*/wesnoth/tags/1.1.2a/changelog?rev=10725 changelog] is really tiny, since this release is only meant to fix these bugs. To download this release, go to the [http://www.wesnoth.org/wiki/Download#Development download page].

Many things have happened in the time that has passed since the last release, and our developers have not been idle.  We proudly present our latest release, which features two new campaigns, several great new music tracks and sound effects, as well as hundreds of graphical improvements. Inevitably, a few bugs have crept in as well, and if you find any, please [http://www.wesnoth.org/wiki/ReportingBugs report] it. If you can't wait to read the announcement, [http://www.wesnoth.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10505 have a look at this page]. ===Wesnoth 1.0.2: The 2nd Maintenance Release===

''Sunday, November 20 2005''

This release fixes several small bugs and the especially annoying MP bug called "error in gamelist diff". Lots of multiplayer maps have been updated, problems in campaigns were fixed, new terrain tiles (swamp, paved road, ...) added and several translations updated. You can find the whole announcement over [http://www.wesnoth.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8509 here]. Wesnoth 1.3.3: Development Release

Sunday, May 28 2007

A new Development release is ready. This time we added quite a few new campaigns and several other things. Since I am too lazy to list all the great changes in here, better have a look at the forum thread which describes the most important changes. As with the last development releases, we continue to offer two versions of changelogs: a rather nice to read players changelog that only includes changes every player will probably notice and the (rather) complete changelog with (almost) all the details, which is likely to cause a serious headache...

The Mac binary is ready, the Windows binary is not. We will post a message and a link in this forum thread once it is available. Have a look at the download page for all the binaries that are already out, like the new Solaris binary. Please keep in mind that it is a development release which might include quite many bugs. If you find one, please report it. One was already found and fixed, have a look at this post for some info about some problematic multiplayer maps and a hotfix.
Update: The Windows binary is now ready, too. You can find it on the download page. It does even include the hotfix for the mp maps.

Wanted: "general purpose campaign maintainer"

Wednesday, May 9 2007

Now that we have changed our policies regarding the addition of campaigns to mainline we are looking for some volunteers to work on the mainline campaigns. This includes fixing bugs, balancing and all this stuff. Have a look at this forum thread for all the fancy details and how to contact us if you are willing to do the job.

Changed policies for campaigns

Monday, May 7 2007

Lately we have been thinking about what else we could do to improve the game beside simply improving graphics, musics/sounds and making WML more flexible. We came to one simple idea: we could ship more campaigns with the game. Since we also want to make it easier to get campaigns into mainline, we have changed our policy a little. The new policy is described in this forum thread. In short: It will be by far easier for a campaign to be added to mainline, but it will also be easier for it to be removed before a release. Especially before a new stable release we will carefully check which ones should be bundled with the game. Some campaigns have already added svn trunk and will be in the next development release, have a look at the forum thread for more info.

Wesnoth 1.3.2: Development Release

Thursday, April 26 2007

2 months of hard work have gone by and now 1.3.2 is available. Since I am too lazy to list all the great changes in here, better have a look at the forum thread where I did describe many things rather in detail. Like with the last development release we do again offer two versions of changelogs: a rather nice to read players changelog that only includes changes every player will probably notice and the (rather) complete changelog with (almost) all the details.

The Windows and Mac binaries are ready. Infos about some of the GNU/Linux binaries are already available at the download page and in the forum thread with the more complete announcement.

This development release is probably incompatible with most the pre 1.3.2 content you have, no matter if saves, replays or usermade content. If you use old content, don't complain if it does not work as expected... Keep in mind that it is a development release which might include quite many bugs. If you find one, please report it.

Planning for Wesconf 2007

Sunday, April 22 2007

In the last weeks we have been working on organizing a first international Wesnoth conference named 'Wesconf'. We are not 100% sure if we can manage everything needed but we do have a first announcement with some of our plans ready. Have a look at the respective forum post for some details about what Wesconf is meant to be, what we want to achieve and, even more important, when and where we want it to take place.

Wesnoth 1.2.4: Maintenance Release

Sunday, April 15 2007

Wesnoth 1.2.4 has been released. Quite some important changes did take place that should fix quite some bugs regarding savegames, recall lists and maybe even replays. Now tSG should be playable again. All the other nice and small fixes and additions can be found in the changelog. You can read the announcement and make your comments in this forum thread. The Mac and Windows binaries and infos about some of the GNU/Linux binaries are already available at the download page. The Debian package (that should also work with *ubuntu) should be available at the usual place, too.

If you have problems, follow the instructions given here. If this does not help, please report them.

Forums up and working

Sunday, April 8 2007

Wesnoth forums have been down for a few days due to data corruption in our database. It took more time than expected to recover because the administrator was not available. Note that we have tried to recover as much as possible, but some of the data might have been lost. Thanks for your patience.

WIP: Wii and PS3 version

Sunday, April 1 2007

Now that we got some basic gp2x support implemented in it's own branch and another (still quite early) alpha version is being uploaded to sf.net, I can now proudly announce that we are currently working on Wii and PS3 support. We are even playing a little with our first (closed alpha) version of the Wii port. Thanks to alinks patches for drag&drop it is huge fun to play it. For some more infos and a photo, have a look at the respective forum thread.

Update: Happy April Fools day!

Febuary 2007

Wesnoth 1.3.1: Development Release

Monday, Febuary 26 2007

Wesnoth 1.3.1 is finally available. Compared to 1.2.x many things were changed in this brand new version. For example we now have a completely rewritten terrain engine supporting multiple letters. This allows to use many more different terrains and two new terrains were already added. But also a lot of other things did change. This also has a negative impact: It is likely that almost all usermade content that did work in 1.2.x will not work without problems in 1.3.1. Since there were really many changes in all areas of the game and it is a development version it might be more unstable than the stable 1.2 tree. Since quite a lot was rebalanced, balancing might not be as perfect yet as it is in 1.2.x. And finally, the damagetype 'holy' was changed to work a little bit different. So be warned, this one is the first development release, who knows what is broken...

Of course, like for every other version, we do have a forum thread to discuss the release and a really lengthy changelog. For the changelog we do offer two versions, a rather nice to read players changelog that only includes changes every player will probably notice and the complete changelog with all the details. The Mac binaries and infos about some of the GNU/Linux binaries are already available at the download page. The working Windows binaries will probably be available soon.

Remove your old installation before installing this development version otherwise you might get some strange problems. You should also remove all usercontent you have left from 1.2.x since it is likely to cause problems. Keep in mind that it is a development release which might include quite many bugs. If you find one, please report it.

Wesnoth 1.2.2: Maintenance Release

Wednesday, Febuary 21 2007

Wesnoth 1.2.2 has been released. The most impressive changes are the speed improvements maxy did implement. Especially in the mp-lobby and when showing animations the game should be a whole lot faster. Savegames were cleaned up to be a little smaller. Because of this only beginning of scenario saves will work as expected, others may have problems with the recall list. Of course there were many other changes so that i can not list them all in here. For all the nice details have a look at the changelog. You can read the announcement and make your comments in this forum thread. The Mac binaries and infos about some of the GNU/Linux binaries are already available at the download page. Don't ask when the Windows binaries will be ready, we have no idea about this...

If you have problems, follow the instructions given here. If this does not help, please report them.

Many spelling and grammar mistakes are now corrected and other little things were added. For all the nice details have a look at the changelog. Read the announcement and comment it in this forum thread. The Windows and Mac Binaries are already available at the download page. If you have problems, follow the instructions given here.
