Deep Inside
"Deep Inside" is a scenario from The Altaz Mariners. Unlike most of the campaign's scenario, it is a one-time event triggered by moving the player's ship to a deep water hex near Exilion in the world map. The scenario takes place inside the digestive system of a sea serpent.

Storyline
While traveling on the sea south of Exilion, Largo and Hugo's ship runs into a sea serpent that swallows the mariners whole. They survive however and climb up through the serpent's digestive system until they reach its mouth. They may also find a path to its brain if they want to kill it. Upon exiting the serpent's mouth, Largo and Hugo are picked up by their ship's crew.
Gameplay
The map is a narrow tunnel of unique hexes named "smudge" (which has the same properties as swamp hexes) and "mound" (which has the same properties as hills hexes). Only Largo and Hugo are available for the player to control during the whole scenario. Largo and Hugo start at the west end of the map and must travel eastward, fighting off Grubs along the way.
Midway through the tunnel, there is an NPC named Athens who has "heals +8" ability and is the only source of healing in the scenario. Talking to him can provide some hint for the exit.
At the end of the pink tunnel, there are a hostile Cuttlefish, one rubble hex containing a mushroom, one rubble hex secretly containing 24 gold, and two smaller tunnels. One tunnel leads to the serpent's brain, which can be destroyed by stepping on all its hexes; this is needed to get the "kill the serpent" ending of Captain Athos's quest. The other tunnel leads to the exit, and the scenario ends when Largo and Hugo both reach it. The time limit is 80 turns.
