 What does default AI do (middle screenshot)? When it chooses attack option for level 1 dwarf, it analyses reachable hexes next to cavalryman and decides to move on the mountains - it guarantees best defense and minimal losses in retaliation. Of course - it also guarantees big losses next turn.

That's because I plugged it only into attack CA and it's only one component of the whole system. Moreover I didn't play with any constants - it can't work in real usecase. But...
