Dark Trolls

Description

An evil mirror to the rare Troll Tribe are the Dark Trolls, a group of trolls that worship pain (even their own), led and harshly ruled by a single troll known as the Painbringer.

This faction is still in the early stages of creation; I think I have the necessary roles filled, but it still needs balancing work (and better sprites!).

I'd like to add some right-click functionality to the Painbringer and the Mystic allowing them to experiment on adjacent trolls, turning them into Flaming or Spiky versions, or to convert them to Tormented Spirits. How to balance to this... can't make it too easy, or it can be used to deny kills to the enemy or save money on recruiting. hmmm...

Version Information

This is in the Tamers era, v0.5.0 - release delayed pending release of Wesnoth 1.6. Hopefully, I can get everything 1.6 converted and released quickly.

Some trolls are born with extra body parts - arms, legs, even heads, almost as if they were supposed to have been two trolls instead. These extra appendages give these freaks a lot of speed (for a troll), but it also makes them very clumsy. Also, their anatomy always seems to be at war with itself, leading to all kinds of odd problems which would cause death in a creature that didn't constantly regenerate (some even more than a usual troll, almost as if they received two trolls worth of that, as well). Most such freaks take to the water; it hides their appearance, requires less balance to move about, and their extra appendages make swimming easier for them than for other trolls.

Some troll freaks that survive to adulthood hear of the stories of trolls that live under bridges and decide that must be a good idea. Embracing their aquatic life and the hakneyed cliches of legend, they often take to guarding a random bridge, just because that's what they think they should do.

Some freaks, through long and extremely painful abuse, manage to squish their extra appendages together, thus ending up looking somewhat normal-ish... except for that extra head.

They've endured so much and hurt themselves so repeatedly that they simply don't hurt as easily anymore, taking a little less damage from any source, and they've learned the path of pain, proselytizing others with a simple stare - having two heads, they can stare quite hard.

An experiment in pain with somewhat less extreme results than most is the so-called Spiky Whelp, a whelp that has had its bones broken and the pieces turned in the wrong directions, giving it bones spikes all over its body.

Torturing Spirits have come to the next level, being so at one with the giving of pain that they literally draw life from it.

Note: I would like to have this unit gain life equal to half of any that it unheals with Auro of Pain, but I'm not sure WML will support that. If it won't I'll probably need to bump the HP a bit.

Aura of Pain

The Heals functionality, set to affect enemies instead of allies, and with a negative heal number. Basically, it unheals them, but it won't kill (bummer).

Regeneration set to 0 hp, but cures poison.
