Description

"The Age of Fear, brought on by the lich lord Mal Ravanal, had ended a decade ago. Once Mal Ravanal himself was defeated, his remaining necromancers and liches were swiftly eradicated. Although with the wesnothian army focused on them, a number of followers of lower rank managed to flee and avoid retribution.

With an understanding and grasp of the dark arts exceedingly inferior to that of their masters, they lacked the strength to oppose the wesnothians alone and were thus forced to remain in hiding. Most of these outlaws retreated back to the eastern swamps, but some left to seek their fortune in the wilderness of the Northlands, away from the reach of vengeful wesnothians.

Many were simply lost to the harsh nature of the north and never heard of again, while a few managed to impress the occasional barbarian tribe with the little skills they had and form small cults and sects.

Our story begins almost a decade later. The mage Rashdin of the new Mage Council, restored after the fall of Mal Ravanal to oversee the training of magi and use of magic, had taken it as his mission to lead detachments of the wesnothian army to hunt down and eliminate the undead remnant. Costly treaties were made with the northern elves and dwarves to allow safe passage through their lands.

The elven council of the Silent Forest had agreed to provide a group of elves as guide and escort to Rashdin and his troops near Borstep, where one such raid was about to begin..." (by zookeeper)

Route of Development

I intend to focus the development of RotL as listed below, in that order.

  1. Port the first eight original scenarios of RotL from stable (1.2.x) to development branch (1.3.x).
  2. Write missing scenarios (approximately a dozen).
  3. Polishing of scenario maps
  4. Balancing
  5. Polishing of dialogs

News

January 10, 2008

  • Version 0.3.0 is out and can be downloaded from the development add-on server. It is just a port from the stable to the development branch, i.e. only WML fixes. You will need to have Wesnoth >= 1.3.14 or SVN installed in order to being able to play.
  • At the moment scenarios one to five are playable. Unfortunately Wesnoth crashes at the beginning of scenario six. I hope to fix this soon, thus one can play all eight original scenarios.

  • I've just started to take a closer look into RotL, originally made and abandoned by zookeeper. For now please use the original version (0.2.5) available for the stable branch of BfW (1.2.x) from here.
