Dark Trolls

Description

An evil mirror to the rare Troll Tribe are the Dark Trolls, a group of trolls that worship pain (even their own), led and harshly ruled by a single troll known as the Painbringer.

This faction is still in the early stages of creation; I think I have the necessary roles filled, but it still needs lots of work (and sprites!).

Clearly, I copied this from the Troll Tribe entry, and I'm replacing it as I go.

Some trolls are born with extra body parts - arms, legs, even heads, almost as if they were supposed to have been two trolls instead. These extra appendages give these freaks a lot of speed (for a troll), but it also makes them very clumsy. Also, their anatomy always seems to be at war with itself, leading to all kinds of odd problems which would cause death in a creature that didn't constantly regenerate (some even more than a usual troll, almost as if they received two trolls worth of that, as well). Most such freaks take to the water; it hides their appearance, requires less balance to move about, and their extra appendages make swimming easier for them than for other trolls.

Some troll freaks that survive to adulthood hear of the stories of trolls that live under bridges and decide that must be a good idea. Embracing their aquatic life and the hakneyed cliches of legend, they often take to guarding a random bridge, just because that's what they think they should do.

Some freaks, through long and extremely painful abuse, manage to squish their extra appendages together, thus ending up looking somewhat normal-ish... except for that extra head.

They've endured so much and hurt themselves so repeatedly that they simply don't hurt as easily anymore, taking a little less damage from any source, and they've learned the path of pain, proselytizing others with a simple stare - having two heads, they can stare quite hard.

As two-headed trolls continue to dabble in the path of pain, they typically gain a following of other trolls, some out of respect, many out of fear. Their continued experiments in pain help them find new ways to inflict it and new ways to enforce loyalty, creating Tormented Spirits to serve them even after death.
