Project: SoC Ideas Persistent Gameworld

Alexander Vishnevskiy - Implement persistent storage of gameworld data between semi-related scenarios

I plan make a tag to save and read variable in files it's for a single player missions, then i thinking and discuss about multplayer variables how better save etc, after that i plan make a global multiplayer with 2 part: global map and local battles.

Write a small introduction to yourself.

Hello, my name is Alex Vishnevskyi. I'm an 20 years old, university undergraduate in Kiev National University Radiophysical Faculty. I like to participate in Google Summer of Code.

State your preferred email address.

If you have chosen a nick for IRC and Wesnoth forums, what is it?

  • IskanderM
  • Wesnoth forums: Iskander

I've worked in program in university, i develop the telephone billing system of my university, also i has small particypate in the other university project, whom consist of the administration of internet users with proxy.

Have you developed software in a team environment before? (As opposed to hacking on something on your own)

Yes, i develop telephone billing inteam which consist of 2 people.

Yes, I always glade when people show my mistakes, and tell my a critik, it is take me a chance be better.

Are you good at sorting useful criticisms from useless ones?

How autonomous are you when developing ? Would you rather discuss intensively changes and not start coding until you know what you want to do or would you rather code a proof of concept to "see how it turn out", taking the risk of having it thrown away if it doesn't match what the project want

It be good for me if i discuss the problem, then i and community take the solution, and then i coded this solution and show the community, i can change my code, or rewrite it if need.

Did you select a project from our list? If that is the case, what project did you select? What do you want to especially concentrate on?

Yes, i selected the persistent gameworld project form the ideas list. I would at first write some easy tegs, for abstract maps which allow create single maps, then i want creat means for mutiplayer, after that i want create in server global system where can participate all player, it's be like great fight between light and dark, or something like that, it considire of 2 part: global map, and lockal fights in wesnoth.

If you have invented your own project, please describe the project and the scope.

Practical considerations

Are you familiar with any of the following tools or languages?

   * Subversion (used for all commits)

   * C++ (language used for all the normal source code)

Yes, it's my first language and i now it very well.

   * STL, Boost, Sdl (C++ libraries used by Wesnoth)

   * Python (optional, mainly used for tools)

   * build environments (eg cmake/autotools/scons)

I try compiling with Cmake, but now i usin Microsoft Visual Studio

   * WML (the wesnoth specific scenario language)

I start learn him becase i need now it in my problem.

   * Lua (used in combination with WML to create scenarios)

Which tools do you normally use for development? Why do you use them?

I using Microsoft Visual Studio, it convenient for me.

What programming languages are you fluent in?

C,C++,C#,Pascal,Delphi(not much).

Would you mind talking with your mentor on telephone / internet phone? We would like to have a backup way for communications for the case that somehow emails and IRC do fail. If you are willing to do so, please do list a phone number (including international code) so that we are able to contact you. You should probably *only* add this number in the application for you submit to google since the info in the wiki is available in public. We will *not* make any use of your number unless some case of "there is no way to contact you" does arise!

I can take my phone number or ICQ. You can ask me on e-mail if it be need, and i take it in my GSoC application
